You have to feel for Moyes; week in, week out, he has to face and outsmart two opponents - the opposing team and his own players. No wonder the poor fellow looks like he’s been boiled.

Emery had obviously thought that if he could drag our players forward and they could beat the press that was their best chance. But our Moyes drilled players don't take any chances and won't gamble on a press to nick the ball back. It resulted in two teams that looked like a game of chess. Very dull.

And those Villa fans were signing Emery's name. A bloke that comes to West Ham and sets up for a point and tries to nick a win. Jesus, Villa fans went down in my estimation.

Yesterday I lost count of the number of times Soucek was 2 or 3 yards off the game. Ther ball kept coming into their midfielders and he's almost there but not enough to get a foot in. He spent the whole game chasing. No anticipation and not enough energy.

Then when we did have the ball he did nothing and offered nothing bar a few short sideways balls.

An absolute waste of a shirt.

And when I got home my mate posted this on our footy group:

Tomas Soucek
Game rating 4 / 10
Goals 0
Shots 0
Assists 0
Key Passes 0
Interceptions 0
Tackles 1
Complete passes 9
Incomplete passes 4

And this guy played the whole game.

we are staring directly into the abyss...we know what's coming yet the club owners, manager and the team dont appear to think its anything to do with them.

Another failure, another opportunity to prosecute a game plan, to put togther a side that wins matches rather than scurry home with a point, missed

Save for antonio, fab & coufal thats our strongest fit-to-play squad we've had all season..yet we look as moribund, shackled and clueless as ever

Decent sides wll rip us a new one and we wont score more than one, so write off arsenal liverpool and Man U - leaves southampton newcastle and leeds which we might win two of. Away? i saw us narrowly win at villa in august-- since thgen hopeless- maybe something at palace

we're fucked...clueless, leaderless and have a management team and style that should have been kicked out during the world cup

we're fucked

Ings clearly didn't pass on his intel to Moyes (or maybe he did but was just ignored) because he looked like a rabbit in headlights out there.

We as fans have seen this coming for some time now, even back end of last season we were dire but people (media related) are now only starting to wake up to the fact we are in a relegation battle. I even think the players have only just realised this too but they don't appear to be that bothered by it. Why would you, you're still guaranteed thousands a week and if they go down, you'll just move somewhere else.

It's like one of those dreams where you know the ending but nothing you do to change it before the inevitable happens.

There were too many times Ings just slow jogged about, times where he did press and had no pace to it at all.

It was a shocking performance from him, dont deflect it as Moyes instructions...... player has to accept responsibility.

Only issue with Moyes was leaving him on for 86 minutes.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Aston Villa - Official Match Thread - Preview
Ron - fair points, mate, but two quick things:

a) Ings is not a lone forward. Never has been, never will be. He performs well when he's part of a duo - working close to a fellow striker, which is how he finds space in and around the box. Playing him upfront on his todd, as Moyes did on Saturday is utterly pointless and completely misunderstands him as a player. So you wonder who did the scouting etc.

b) Ings not pressing is entirely on instruction from Moyes and his coaching staff. They actively choose not to high-press. In fact, our entire set up is a low-block - with a mass of bodies centred around the area in front of the centre halves (including those centre halves). It is the opposite of the high-press in many ways. So, again, Ings' failures on that front are entirely on Moyes - he's instructed not to press high up the pitch and to occupy space slightly deeper.

Moyes is a clueless 20th century dinosaur tactically. His view of Villa's approach, genuinely, would be that if their keeper is fannying around wasting time on the ball in their penalty area, then Villa are not threatening us. This is where his 'respect the point' bullshit comes from. He's happy for the entire side to sit on their hands when that happens because he's less likely to lose.

Screw 'winning'. Moyes is all about 'don't lose'.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Aston Villa - Official Match Thread - Preview
Villa’s “time wasting” was always with the ball in open play, and therefore frustrating but not actually illegal time wasting. I’m more bothered that our centre forward who came from this team and must know the tactics just passively stood there and let them do it rather close the keeper down. On the odd occasion we did press him, he played them into a bit of trouble or kicked it out of play.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Aston Villa - Official Match Thread - Preview
We definitely deserved to win yesterday but we are such a horrible passive team
The players clearly have the hump with the way they’re being asked to play
The substitutions yesterday were an absolute joke the manager has completely lost the plot playing Kehrer and keeping him on for 90mins was astonishing. Subbing Paqueta when sucek completed about 3 passes, bringing a winger on for a striker when you have a striker on the bench. All very strange

But unfortunately there’s no way he’s going to get sacked we’re stuck with him we just need to hope there’s three teams worse than us come last game of the season or players start ignoring his shitty tactics and decide to actually play like they need to win

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Aston Villa - Official Match Thread - Preview
Not a polular view, but despite Antonio's faults, and he has declined even further over the last 12 months, you can still see why Moyes likes him in our set up. Apart from the Forest game Ings has looked pretty poor, Emery was happy to get rid too for the price. Certainly not writing him as he knows where the net is, but in our set up he is probably better utilised as an impact sub.

Fuck knows what's going on with the Italian, but suspect Antonio will be starting against Soton when it comes around.

Best description I heard of Soucek was that he's like a referee i.e runs after the ball all game but never does anything. A a shocking player at this level and all the usual excuses for him dried up long ago.

Rossal 11:04 Mon Mar 13
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Aston Villa - Official Match Thread - Preview
Dont think we deserved to win it, which after the results on saturday and the games we have left is really disappointing.

Ings Soucek and Kehrer were dogshit.

Ings didnt press once from the front, did absolute fuck all should of been hooked on the hour for Scamacca. Soucek running to play as a 2nd striker every time we got the ball was fucking weird. I've never seen a CM not want to get on the ball as much when the CB's have it. He is fucking hopeless. We are not going to score goals with that style of play or with those 2 playing like that. Kehrer was getting murdered first half, their LB was superb couldnt believe they took him off.

Benny and Bowen were good, unfortunately they cant do it on their own. The only time we ever threaten is down the wings...... no attacking threat or style through the middle at all its shocking.

Subs were baffling as per

Ground was silent

With games coming up we look in a desperate situation. Moyes stays and we go down simple as that. We have tough home games left and we're shit away from home. I think we'll need wins in the final 3 games and he cant win games anymore

Going down will ruin us

I'm not blaming Cornet entirely for his repeated offsides. If the balls over the top had been played a split second earlier he'd have been OK. We don't have players who are quick enough of thought.

I was level with him for the one in one he missed and it would've been a right VAR... if he'd actually managed to score

It was another toothless performance where we wasted chances and got lucky with a penalty that wasnt. My biggest concern is body language and you could see from Rice, Paqueta, Scamacca that the dressing room must be crap.
Some pretty awful performances out there again. Villa could get crosses in with ease all game, we were crying out for pace and a decent pass to release someone as they played such a high defensive line. Clearly gambled we didnt have the quality to exploit and they were right. They didnt want Ings in the box. The level of grappling and wrestling allowed was ridiculous. Anywhere else on the pitch and its a foul.

It looks like we will stick with the same game every week. Try to scrape a point and not open up and try to play. We have a decent team technically but not enough heart and quality at the right time.
Positives today were probably Bowen who was really bright first half and I thought Emerson had a good game. Benrahma found space and showed a bit of confidence but really has to improve his finishing. Could have had 3 if he didnt just stick the ball straight at the keeper.

In all fairness I thought we played better than we have recently in spite of Moyes crazy management of the game.

Aguerd got caught out not being tight on Watkins for their goal. Kehrer is not a RB and goodness only knows what Moyes saw in him to want to buy him.

Soucek was abysmal, made only 9 completed passes yet stayed on whole game. Paqueta was clearly pissed at coming off and who could blame him?

Ings couldn’t get games at Villa and is best when used as a 2nd striker. So we sign him as a lone striker. When we need a goal he takes off Ings and leaves Scamacca on bench!

I watched Newcastle beat Wolves after our game and the difference between managers was chalk and cheese. Wolves we’re very good and won’t be relegated under a new manager that is in PL for the first time! How can that be DS?

Eddie Howe was class and he made class subs to get the winner later in their game. Moyes and Howe. Chalk and cheese! Howe brings on players that score and Moyes brings on Fornals who promptly missed a couple of chances to score like he invariably does.

If I was Scamacca I’d have punched Moyes by now. If I was Captain I would have spoken with the board about Moyes having lost the players There was effort for sure but we were not given the chance to win by our hopeless manager.

I thought we did ok, but felt we dropped 2 points. A draw was fair, but we had the opportunities to win it, but as usual didn't take them. Benrahma drives me mad, looks good on the ball, but his shots and final passes are just rubbish, I think he's not good enough. Cornet is an idiot if he cannot understand off side.
Large parts of the game were pretty boring. I was watching on a stream that at one point started getting stuck on a loop showing some boring midfield passing that was going no where, very soon I didn't know if the stream was looping or I was watching real time as it was all much the same!

When you have a team who don't want to play for the manager, you don't have a team.
